Quandong Jam 220g

Quandong (Santalum acuminatum) is the native peach of Australia that is a relative of the Sandalwood. A small tree, variable in size, from 2 - 8 metres high that is more commonly found in dry arid areas that is tolerant to drought and salinity. Fossilised Quandongs have been found in coal seams in Victoria, dating back 40 million years. Quandong is hemiparasitic, which means it relies on a host plant for its water and sole nutrients, and normally has more than one host at a time. They were and still are an important part of diet for Aboriginal people and in some communities are a suitable meat substitute.

Quandongs can be dried and stored for up to eight years and reconstituted when needed. An important source of bush medicine, they have a high concentration of vitamin C and are high in magnesium, iron, zinc, and antioxidants – making Quandongs a superfood in modern terms.

Quandong has a sweet tangy tartness and has the wild peach of Australia.
